The growing world of entertainment technology delivers an exciting career working on live production events such as rock shows, Broadway musicals, and sound and music at some of Houston’s most recognizable entertainment venues.
“When you graduate high school everyone is pressuring you to go to the four-year college and set out on that next chapter in your life,” said Lacey Castro, LSC graduate.
Castro said that she had a difficult time finding a bachelor’s program that fit what she wanted to do and wanted to spend her time learning.
“It wasn’t until I looked on the Lone Star College-Montgomery website that an ad for a live entertainment program was available and was actually tailored for theater and the live production world,” Castro said.
The Live Entertainment Technology program at LSC-Montgomery teaches the fundamental knowledge, skills and abilities to design, maintain, and operate technology systems in entertainment and sporting venues, churches, auditoriums, theatres, convention hotels and trade shows. LSC-Montgomery is one of four schools in the nation to offer an associate degree in live entertainment technology.
The level one certificate, level two certificate, and associate of applied science degrees are designed to provide a pathway into this exciting industry.
“If you’ve been to a rock and roll show and have seen the lights and seen the audio, seen the special effects; that is this program,” said Rob Kreps, LSC-LET, program director. “We’re unique as we are the only program of its kind in the state of Texas.”
“I can’t credit my teachers and program advisors enough for the wealth of education and insight they provided me,” said Castro, who works for Bright Star Productions. In August, she will also start as Technical Theater Director for St. Agnes Academy in Houston.
