Lone Star College has been designated a 2016 Military Friendly® School for the third year in a row.
The Military Friendly® lists, by Victory Media, a veteran-owned business connecting the military and civilian worlds, are compiled through extensive research and free, data-driven surveys of employers, schools, franchise systems and cities.
“Lone Star College has many programs, such as College Credit for Heroes, which are specifically geared toward helping vets access best-in-class post-secondary education,” said Steven Hall, LSC system director, veteran affairs, veteran services.
College Credit for Heroes is a state of Texas initiative that recognizes the exceptional knowledge and skills gained by military service members and award them college credits for their military experience, allowing these veterans to more easily and quickly re-enter the workforce.
“As a 25-year Air Force veteran, I can appreciate the challenges vets face when returning to civilian life and am proud of the commitment Lone Star College has made to fulfilling the needs of our military affiliate students,” said Hall.
As part of the Victory Media data, LSC received high marks for flexibility in scheduling and course completion requirements, credit acceptance, as well as spouse and dependent benefits.
Each LSC campus has a Veterans Services liaison to help veteran students and eligible dependents with services including a centralized processing center for the certification of education benefits.
The mission of LSC Veterans Affairs is to lead in the educational achievements of military veterans and those military-affiliated student populations – to continue to engage in mentorship and professional development of those who have and continue to serve and sacrifice for liberty and freedom.
