\u201cOur philosophy is to help students gain every advantage possible to fully prepare them for a rewarding career in Information Technology,\u201d said Dean Dr. Kim Hubbard. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWorking closely with industry partners ensures students receive the most up-to-date training possible,\u201d she said. <\/span><\/p>\n

Immersed in contained, simulated environments in the classrooms and data center, students learn on state-of-the-art equipment that mirrors equipment used in the workplace. <\/span><\/p>\n

Professor Gary Croft said CISCO CCNA courses provide skills that are an important part of the cybersecurity degree programs. More specifically, in his CCNA Cyber Ops course, students get hands-on experience using enterprise-grade Cisco security solutions they would need to know for detecting and responding to security incidents. <\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the technical skills, students also attain a better understanding of how organizations deal with cybercrime, cyberespionage, insider threats, advanced persistent threats, regulatory requirements, and related issues. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cStudents gain job-ready practical skills for in-demand job roles in cybersecurity operations,\u201d he said. <\/span>\u201cIn addition to graduating ready to maintain and ensure security operational readiness of secure networked systems, students are prepared for industry-recognized CCNA Cybersecurity Operations certification.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Cybersecurity program student Hannah Ricks, who plans to graduate in 2022 and then pursue her bachelor\u2019s, chose this field because she likes \u201csolving puzzles, computers and the money doesn\u2019t hurt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She said she\u2019s learned things like network management, basic programming skills and how to use various tools for ethical hacking purposes. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the data center, we learn to use the actual hardware and software that we\u2019d be using in the real world, including new versions of routers and switches,\u201d she continued. \u201cI think the biggest lesson I\u2019ve learned is how truly dangerous the internet is.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

One benefit of LSC-Westway Park Technology Center\u2019s program is the small class size allowing for personal attention to detail. Additionally, the Cisco Network Academy provides students peer networking opportunities, access to a webinar library, online advice to get hired, virtual career fairs, Women in IT events and more. <\/span><\/p>\n
